Q: How can my family and friends track my progress during the race?

A: We provide real-time participant tracking through our ChronoTrack timing system! Your supporters can follow your progress online by visiting our race website on race day and entering your bib number or name. The system will show your split times at various checkpoints throughout the course, including miles 5, 10, and the finish line. We’ll also provide a direct link to the tracking page in your pre-race email and on our social media channels.

Q: Is there a place to store my belongings during the race?

A: Yes! We offer secure gear check services at the start/finish area near Memorial Circle. Participants can check one clearly labeled bag for $5. Our gear check area is staffed by volunteers throughout the entire event and will remain open until 1 hour after the last finisher crosses the line. We recommend only bringing essential items and keeping valuables with your spectators when possible. The gear check area is located in the Texas Tech Student Union Building, which provides indoor security and weather protection.

Q: Is there a charge for parking?

A: No! Parking is completely FREE for all race participants and spectators. We have designated multiple Texas Tech parking lots and parking garages adjacent to the start/finish area. Parking areas will be clearly marked with “Texas Half Marathon” signage, and volunteers will be on hand to direct traffic starting at 5:30 AM on race day. The closest parking is available in the Administration Building garage and the surrounding surface lots on the Texas Tech campus.

Q: What happens if I can’t attend and need to cancel my registration?

A: We understand that sometimes life gets in the way! Here’s our cancellation policy:

  • 60+ days before the race: Full refund minus $10 processing fee
  • 30-59 days before the race: 50% refund
  • Less than 30 days before the race: No refund, but you can defer your entry to the following year for a $15 transfer fee
  • Race day cancellations: No refund or transfer available

All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email to info@texashalf.com. We also offer race insurance through our registration partner for an additional fee if you’re concerned about unforeseen circumstances.

Q: Will professional photography be included?

A: Absolutely! We’ve partnered with Mark Umstot Photography, one of Lubbock’s premier sports and event photographers, to capture all the action throughout the race. Professional photographers will be positioned at key locations including the start line, various scenic points along the course, and the finish line. All race photos will be available for FREE download within 48 hours of the race through our online gallery. You’ll receive a link to access and download your images via email after the event.

Q: Are there bathroom facilities available for spectators?

A: Yes! Spectator restroom facilities are available at multiple locations:

  • Texas Tech Student Union Building (climate-controlled, main spectator area)
  • Memorial Circle area (portable facilities)
  • Jones AT&T Stadium (permanent facilities at the finish line/after-party area)
  • Mackenzie Park (permanent facilities, mile 7-9 spectator viewing area)

All restroom locations will be clearly marked on the spectator map provided on race day and available on our website. The Student Union Building facilities offer the most comfort and are recommended for families with small children.

Q: What happens if a participant needs to quit partway through the race?

A: Your safety is our top priority! If you need to stop during the race:

  • Notify the nearest volunteer or medical personnel – they’re positioned at every aid station and throughout the course
  • Our sweep vehicle will pick up any participants who cannot continue and transport them safely back to the finish area
  • Medical support is available at miles 4, 8, and 11, with roving medical personnel throughout the course
  • Emergency contact: Text “HELP” with your bib number to (806) 555-RACE for immediate assistance
  • Lubbock Emergency Medical Services is on standby with ambulances positioned at strategic points along the course

If you withdraw from the race, please ensure you check in with race officials at the finish line so we can account for all participants. You’ll still receive your finisher medal and tech shirt regardless of whether you complete the full distance.

Q: What should I do if the weather is bad on race day?

A: The Texas Half will take place rain or shine! Lubbock’s high plains weather can be unpredictable, so we monitor conditions closely:

  • Severe weather policy: The race will only be cancelled for dangerous conditions (lightning, severe thunderstorms, or extreme temperatures)
  • Weather updates: Check our website and social media for real-time updates starting 48 hours before the race
  • Indoor facilities: The Texas Tech Student Union Building provides shelter for participants and spectators if needed
  • If cancelled: Participants will receive a full refund or option to defer to the following year

Q: Can I run with my dog?

A: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed on the race course for safety reasons and due to Texas Tech University campus policies. We recommend making arrangements for your furry friends to stay home on race day. Service animals are permitted with proper documentation.

Q: Is the course certified and can I use this race as a Boston Marathon qualifier?

A: Yes! The Texas Half course is USATF certified, and all finish times are eligible for Boston Marathon qualifying standards and other race entry requirements. Our ChronoTrack timing system provides accurate, chip-timed results that meet all major marathon qualification standards.
