Starting Line: Texas Tech University Campus

Your Texas Half journey begins at the iconic Memorial Circle on the Texas Tech University campus, positioned in front of the Administration Building. This historic landmark serves as the perfect starting point, with its majestic carillon tower and beautifully manicured grounds providing an inspiring backdrop for your 13.1-mile adventure through Hub City.

Course Overview & Terrain

The route showcases the diverse landscape and character of Lubbock, Texas, taking runners through a thoughtfully designed path that combines the vibrant university atmosphere with the city’s most beloved landmarks. The course features predominantly flat terrain with gentle rolling hills, making it ideal for both first-time half marathoners and seasoned runners seeking a fast, scenic race.

Elevation Profile: The course maintains a relatively flat profile with minimal elevation gain, staying true to the High Plains topography. The most notable incline occurs between miles 4-5 as runners navigate through the historic downtown area, followed by a gentle descent toward Buffalo Springs Lake.

Mile-by-Mile Course Highlights:

Miles 1-3: Campus & University Area Departing Memorial Circle, runners head northeast through the beautiful Texas Tech campus, passing the iconic Jones AT&T Stadium and the newly renovated Student Union Building. The route then transitions onto Broadway, where spectators line the sidewalks to cheer on participants as they make their way toward downtown Lubbock.

Miles 4-6: Historic Downtown & Cultural District The course winds through Lubbock’s historic downtown, passing the magnificent Buddy Holly Center and the stunning Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts. Runners will experience the heart of Lubbock’s cultural scene as they navigate past the Depot District, where live music venues and local restaurants will be participating and cheering, creating an energetic atmosphere.

Miles 7-9: Natural Beauty & Parks The route leads runners through the serene Mackenzie Park, a 248-acre recreational area on the east side of Lubbock, home to Prairie Dog Town and beautiful walking trails. This section provides welcome shade under mature cottonwood trees and offers glimpses of local wildlife that call this urban oasis home.

Miles 10-12: Lubbock Lake Landmark One of the course’s most spectacular segments takes runners past the Lubbock Lake Landmark, an archaeological and natural history preserve at the northern edge of the city containing evidence of almost 12,000 years of occupation by ancient peoples on the Southern High Plains. This unique landmark adds historical significance to your running experience.

Mile 13-Finish: Return to Campus The final stretch brings runners back toward the Texas Tech campus, with the finish line positioned at the spacious Jones AT&T Stadium parking area, providing ample room for the post-race celebration.
